Very perPlexing <GGG>.

I picked up a Ricoh 6201S SCSI CD ReWriter $358 and a Plextor 8Plex CDROM $90 as the audio extraction source and NTI CD-Maker Pro $35 (Marquis Computers marquis-computers.com )

Dan at Marquis suggested the 8Plex as it is constant speed.

I do not have a very good musical ear but the 8Plex sounds a lot better than my sony IDE drive. If I can get it working right I will try to verify this with some more ears.

I returned the 8Plex as it seemed to have a problem. Every second or so it vibrated as it tried to read a CD just after insertion. This happens on half of my CD's and not on the other half and always the same CD's. Auto insertion detect is disabled on all CD drives.

He gave me a new one after testing it himself.

There is no difference!? I am guessing there is some kind of conflict. I disabled the bios on the Adaptec AHA 2940 U2W controller but no difference. I Unplugged my IDE CDROM still no change. I booted to Win98 and still no change.

Could there be a conflict between the Iwill XA100 AMI bios and some header info on a CD as interpretted by the 8Plex???

perPlexed
