Rick, Sorry to disagree with you here. But the only reason to consider buying this stock NOW is if you want to bet on an acquisition. If that's the case, then buying some calls is a far better alternative IMO. But we're different in one big respect. I absolutely hate dead money. When I start thinking that I'd have more money by letting the money sit in a passbook savings account I feel like maybe I made a mistake.

It's not like Luongo said this is just a this qtr problem. I don't understand why people don't wait until the stock actually turns around before they jump in. I've done it myself so I'm not saying this to be critical. So you lose (mentally) a few points or so. But hopefully you were able to use that money that was dead to make money elsewhere in the meantime. It's not like this won't be around after today. I wish I had enough money to do it the other way. I just don't. But even if I did I just wouldn't. I did buy a few (very few) calls just in case there's an acquisition. I'm prepared to lose that money and that's where my expectations are. If vntv does get acquired, it will just be a pleasant surprise.

Don't discount the acquisition potential. It seems to me that the strategic value in the cis space places a floor on the price, even if the next quarter is bad. It seems to me if Vantive goes below 10 or so, takeover interest would be high.

Isn't the potential of a takeover too remote to consider? Any realistic thoughts on a suitor?
- SAP 0% -- they're building, not buying
- Baan 0% -- they've bought
- Siebel 0% -- anti-trust, SCOP, etc.
- Oracle ?? -- they're building, but don't seem to be executing
- PSFT ?? -- others have commented negatively on this, I don't have an opinion.

A buyout seems like a longshot to me.
