I have seen this from other teams that play Ronaldo et al and its catching on. The cumulative effect is devastating because the longer the match goes the player loses mobility from the hits.

What you described as been going on for quite some time now, I am sure you do not remember that in the past, players did not use shin guards.

It used to be the mark of a good player, (as well as courageous and foolish one), to play with the "socks down", check it out, there are many pictures.

The new rules, (tackle from behind), as well as a more generous granting of yellow cards for "fake" dives, will improve the game.

As Bobby Charlton suggested, a review of a video tape would also show how much a player is faking or not, if warranted, a post game yellow card may be awarded... (although this becomes bureaucratic...)

Holland coach should be banned from FIFA as well as Edgar Davids.

Now you are exaggerating on the other side of the fence...

Z.

Name-calling is childish, especially for a late-comer to this thread. The tape tells all, and you, my friend, must obviously be blind.

George, first of all, the referee was not a Saudi, he was from the United Arab Emirates. I agree Holland did not play as well as they could have; neither did Brazil, for that matter. But the fact remains that Van Hooidonk was BLATANTLY pulled down in the penalty area in the 90th minute. Are we to "let them play" by ignoring fundamental rules of football? Ronaldo was not fouled, either - it was a legitimate slide-tackle.

To all: please review the tape. Van Hooidonk was pulled down by his shirt in the penalty area when he was in scoring position. If you think that play did not merit a penalty, then you are not familiar with the rules. End of story.

I am not a rabid partisan, and I can handle a loss, but not like this. I am sorry.
