Very nice news! So they started beta testing in June as scheduled. So far, so good. 1000 users in the beta test. That's a nice load to check out the system. The carriers are comprised of eight of the top telecommunications companies in the United States, including cellular, PCS and land-line providers. This is very interesting. PCS - who might that be? I don't recall a PCS provider on the original list. Land-line? That's very interesting. 8? That's more than the original release. I wonder why they didn't say who the other 3 were? General Magic is on schedule to deliver Portico commercially on July 30 in a progressive rollout of the service. Confirmation in every press release. I like this. External trials with selected customers in target markets are expected to follow. Completion of carrier trials will help achieve General Magic's distribution strategy of making the Portico service available through carriers in the months ahead. OK, maybe I'm reading too much into this, but, 'months ahead' tells me we may have carriers online before the end of the year instead of next year as some have predicted. Thanks to the extensibility and scalability of its magicTalk platform, General Magic also has the ability to incorporate additional features into the Portico service as they are developed and tested. In other words, more stuff to come! Very nice!!!!

News And Rumors. Nice news. The eight carrier reference is a bit amazing, yes? Kind of odd timing for it, though. I wonder if there is any information in the fact that they put this out in the dead of night. And now for my juicy rumor ... The rumor is that GMGC is putting together another NOC. Not in California, and very hush-hush. I got this rumor from friends in low places. Nothing I'd make an investment decision on, but interesting nonetheless. My speculation is that this NOC is being done in conjunction with a carrier, although this wasn't stated. Sea Otter

Sturtz, this was joyous news. You don't know how joyous such news is. I had an unchanged buy limit sitting there and kicked in way last week on Schwab after I forgot about it. Problem was I was already in for all I've got sitting around right now. I got a call at work about my unpaid balance, and it took me about 10 minutes to get over the shock and be able to think about what to shuffle to cover it. Serious unhappiness would have followed if it hadn't started right back up. So, I am especially a happy camper, and I think if it hits 14 plus this week lots of people will be extremely happy too. Very close.
