Some quotes from AMD Qtr results: Lots of competition for the WC2!
=====================================================
"Our return to profitability depends on the unit volume and ASPs of our K6 products," he said during a conference call with analysts this afternoon. Sanders noted that the company shipped 2.6 million K6 chips this quarter, and cleared out the last remaining devices that use 0.35-micron technology. He predicted that more than 12 million K6 microprocessors would be sold by the end of the year, a goal that requires AMD to ship about 3.5 million in this quarter and another 4.5 million in the fourth quarter.

In addition, Sanders promised that his company would be able to ship significant volumes of 350-MHz chips this quarter, and 400-MHz devices in the fourth quarter. If he can keep that promise, Sanders said the faster chips would allow AMD to keep its K6 prices above $100.

"We expect our ASPs to be up in the third quarter as we shift to higher speeds," he said. "This is a highly desirable product, and it can compete directly with the Pentium II."

Sanders also pointed out that the capability to deliver up to 12 million chips is all based on internal AMD fabs.
