XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT FLASH XXXXX CLINTON HENCHMEN WANT TRIPP TAPES

MARYLAND SAYS IT WILL SUBPOENA GOLDBERG'S TRIPP TAPES; GOLDBERG SAYS COME GET 'EM

Investigators would like to subpoena copies of taped conversations of Linda Tripp. A Howard County, Md., grand jury is now probing whether Tripp violated state law by secretly recording phone conversations.

Maryland prosecutor Stephen Montanarelli will subpoena copies of other taped phone conversations between Tripp and New York literary agent Lucianne Goldberg, according to published reports.

"Come and get me, Copper!" Goldberg said from New York City.

"Those tapes will reveal whether Linda Tripp had mental knowledge that her recordings may have been illegal," a legal source in Maryland tells reporters. "They could be the 'smoking gun' the prosecutor needs."

"I'm going to show the top law enforcement official in the land how it's done: I'm going to cooperate!" Goldberg said. "More rather than less, sooner rather than later."

"What I have totally exonerates Linda."
