The reason for the high domestic margins is that there is no marketing partner. Add a marketing partner and your domestic margins become the same as your international margins.

>>''In recent months the erectile dysfunction market has made a major shift toward the primary care physician (PCP). This shift has necessitated a change in VIVUS' strategy and the decision to partner in the U.S. with a large pharmaceutical company. The success of VIVUS' partners in launching MUSE worldwide has demonstrated the benefits of being a well-known presence in the marketplace,'' said Leland Wilson, President and CEO of VIVUS, Inc. ''Our strategy change also has the immediate benefit to VIVUS of reducing expenses and poising the Company for a return to profitability.'' <<

This guys sharp. It took him this long to figure this out. But maybe its never too late.

I come up with similar numbers.
They justify analyst expectations of $1/sh going forward.
Not blockbuster numbers, but not cause for hanging crepe either.
The company has a niche market that has several key features that potential marketing partners are finding attractive: (1) HMO/insurance companies will reimburse muse but not viagra because of safety record (2)potentially more effective than viagra in certain patient sets (3) less of a potential liability headache.
If it drops to 6 its a screaming buy (unless you have the patience of a 3 year old). And, threadmembers, dont worry so much about its price on instanet or what covered calls will cost.

Why is everyone so shocked?

We all knew VVUS would put all the charges they could into this quarter.

We all knew Leland would screw up the CC.

The future looks risky . . . we all knew that too (that's why we're at $7 instead of $70.)
