This was not presented as a deterioration of the arrays, was it? Wasn't it a problem from the go? If you have differing info please post.

Exactly. They can never guarantee the lifetime of a satellite, because of the unknown effects of radiation and other factors, such as possible impact with meteorites, etc. But the cost of replacing these sats frequently is very well accounted for in the business plan! These companies are not out there to lose money. After all, communication sats have been around for four decades, and the engineers in this business know what they're doing. regards...
