Mike,
First of all I never heard of the rag that did the review, which does not
mean all that much. I would go with what PC mag, PC world or
one of the better known mags out there said. They normally do a better and more complete review of final silicon.
Second, this was done a few months ago with a alpha based board.
It stated that the clockspeed of the chipset and memory would
change quite a bit by release of product.
In all fairness the Voodoo 2 technology will be 7-9 months old
by the time S3 releases Savage. It has already made its money
and will be pushed down into mainstream with cost reductions.
S3 needs to compare the Savage board to the new releases
from ATI, Matrox, 3DFX and NVIDIA. If it stacks up well then
the OEM will come and the stock price will rise. On the sideline
for now.
