I know the John in the second quote, or at least someone with the same act. He continuously changes his message as part of an ongoing evolutionary drama starring various household appliances and a power mad, paranoid answering machine. It becomes a real challenge to come up with a message that gives your intended message while fitting in with the latest twist in the story line. I call frequently to stay on top of the story and am generally upset when he actually answers.
