Craig - I understand your concern that Brocade may have a feature that provides greater functionality than does Ancor. However, how certain are you that this is the case. The Storage Technology press release does not to my reading establish this. Am I missing something? Has anyone put this question to the company?

CraigS1,

I just did a Lexis-Nexis search on the number of articles where the two word phrase "fibre channel" appeared over the course of the first six months of this year and the previous two years. The result for '96 was 423 articles while for '97 was 813 and '98 was 1,159.

The same comparison for just this past week compared to the same week last year reveals that there were 54 articles mentioning "fibre channel" this year versus 23 stories in '97.

So the momentum is definitely building for fibre channel. Now, if only Ancor's stock price would have moved up in the same proportion.-g-

Craig,

<<<The bottom line is that Ancor evidently needed to have this feature available DURING the OEM qualification process, not after the fact.>>>

Assuming Ancor did lose Sun, Hwp, and one IBM OEM, which scenario would you rather have? They didn't have this feature during qualification process, or, they did have this feature and lost. And, the assumption of these lost OEMs could be off except SUN. Just don't write them off yet.
