The S3 Challenge

So, what I am hearing is that:

1) S3 has, and is known for, a poor track record.
2) We are talking about a product not due for months -at least until October - November.
3) S3 does not do Glide.
4) An even better Banshee is in the works for around Q4. -faster and cooler running.
5) S3's financial position does not warrant the marketing depth available to TDFX.
6) The board makers are still putting their primary hopes on 3dfx. S3 is currently viewed as an also ran to fill out the product line.
7) Software makers are still flocking to 3dfx. Glide has the games.
8) 3dfx has the public's mindshare.
9) The up and coming TDFX public relations campaign (!) that S3 can't match.
10) The cumulative effect of three successful and profitable Quarters under TDFX's belt going into Q4 and 1999.

Is the bottom line that S3's efforts are too little, too late?

Hal

PS: SIII shares are selling for five bucks and some small change. Can they last through Q4? HR
