ECI TELECOM ANNOUNCES COOPERATION WITH VERIFONE TO DEVELOP AND MARKET TRANSACTION SYSTEMS
LAS VEGAS, April 2 1996 /PRNewswire/ -- ECI Telecom Ltd. (Nasdaq-NNM: ECILF) today announced at NETWORLD+INTEROP that it will cooperate with Verifone, Inc. to develop and market transaction systems worldwide. ECI Telecom's Telematics Access Business Group provides integrated network solutions for the Internet, POS, Dial Access, FRAD and Multi-protocol markets. Verifone is a recognized leader in the design and development of secure payment systems. The companies' joint objective is twofold: to develop end-to-end network solutions for high- performance transaction processing and to market these solutions worldwide through VeriFone's established distribution channels. One such product resulting from this relationship is SmartNet(TM) 50, the industry's first payment optimized controller for POS transactions. Utilizing ECI Telecom's ACP (Access Communications Processor), the SmartNet product family provides complete ingress and egress connectivity for POS transactions directly attached to VeriFone's payment systems. SmartNet products also serve as a host controller for access to VeriFone's Omnihost client-server software and other commonly used POS host computers. SmartNet's networking capabilities offer many advantages over current POS products, offering a wide variety of protocols and interfaces supported at a cost effective price point. SmartNet supports all major POS terminal protocols, such as SDLC, VISA, and TNET; network protocols such as X.25, Frame Relay and PPP; and host protocols, such as X.25, SNA and IP. The interface technologies, V.11, V.35, V.24 and RS530, are available for dedicated links. ISDN BRI connectivity is available for back-up or low volume applications that cannot justify a dedicated connection to the network. Demonstrations of the SmartNet family will be held at ECI Telecom's booth #3797. "We are excited to be associated with VeriFone, a leader in POS and EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer). This combined with ECI's expertise in networking and transmission will create the synergy necessary to develop products that meet the application requirements in this market," said Terry Rihel, ECI Telecom's Telematics Vice President and GM for the Access Business Group. John Hinds, VeriFone Executive Vice President, added "The convergence of VeriFone's electronic payments expertise and ECI Telecom's networking capabilities has resulted in a leading-edge payment- optimized networking product that will significantly enhance the ability of banks and financial institutions to improve satisfaction for merchants and their customers."
Other NETWORLD+INTEROP 96 Activity ECI Telecom's Telematics Business Unit will also demonstrate the, NCX product family of WAN solutions which utilize ATM, Frame Relay, and Packet and Circuit Switching technologies for voice, video, data, imaging and Internet applications. The NCX 1E6 allows Network Service Providers to deliver a contracted level of service to each network user regardless of network conditions. The entire NCX product family is managed by OMS, an enhanced HP OpenView SNMP-based network management system.
