Al Gore's mistake did get national attention, Michael. I heard about it, and of course you know I only expose myself to the very most liberal media coverage. All public figures make mistakes. It's just that Danny Quayle made so many of them, he became something of a long-running joke. Do you remember when he said that if his daughter became pregnant, she and he and his wife would all talk about it and consider all the options, including abortion? This is very typical of national Republican leaders, who are sometimes forced to mouth the phrases of the religious right, but certainly do not live that way in their private lives. At the time, publicly he actively supported a very anti-abortion plank.
