Craig,

Interesting questions. I don't believe that more than one religion is the truth. While from a human perspective it may seem rational for me to go try a bunch of different religions, I don't think that would be in my best interest from a spiritual standpoint. I don't know too much about Buddha. I bought an unbiased book on world religions recently that has many pages devoted to Buddhism. From what I gathered, it seemed like more of an ethical philosophy than a religion prophesing to be the Truth of life. Aren't you guys allowed to worship one God, no gods, or many gods? Please correct me if I'm off base. I recently wrote an essay that may answer more of your questions about Truth vs. relative truth if you want to read it at this link.

So how do you know which truths are absolute and which ones are only to be pulled out on special occasions? Seems like there's a lot of room for error and all-too-human rationalizations here.

You may be right. I'll admit to rationalizing many of the Bible verses I thought didn't sound right only to find out what they REALLY meant later on in life. This verse specifically tells the Israelites to go meet their neighbors, offer peace, and then kill them if need be. This sequence of killing was also part of the covenant given to the Jews to establish their "promised land." I don't see how it could apply to all future Jews and Christians in all circumstances.

Thanks and God Bless,

Grant
