Tokyomex, I also am sick of watching and waiting and then seeing the price go over the local discount price and then wait some more if I buy or pay UPS red to get it next day. I suspect the states will soon start to assess sales taxes on purchases and they will start to audit your VISA/MC/AMEX information if they can legally look at it(if your use it for business purchases that you deduct on state income taxes for example) they will then make you cough up 7 years back sales taxes on all the MO items you bought over that period. It could happen. If the feds level the playfield local stores will be more competitive too.
The Surplus sales and other auctions: Many companies that used to dump surplus at 10% will start their own web site and sell it there. Some will use EGGS, Bidcom etc to save getting a financial backend. If the volume warrants and they are a solid manufacturer they will be able to get their own back end quite easily and cheaply. EGGS has traffic, ILI will also have traffic as they pay for banners here and there. After a while people will start doing more buying direct from makers on their own sites and this will isolate the EGGS and bidcoms as they will find that their profits have vanished with the general price decline this will bring. I have fears that a lot of smal retail tier will vanish unless they can make themselves unique and special enough to keep sales at premium prices for the extra good or unique stuff they sell, and they too can get web sites. Anyone care to guess how it will settle in 20 years? I think we will still buy a coke at the gas station, but we might use a change card instead of cash. More electronic money will put more of a handle on sales and limit tax evasion by cash transactions. Slots with cash cards?, done now.
Will we all start wearing standard clothes as this penetrates? when we all buy lands end sweaters # 233445-AQ? Will the general variability of choice be the first casualty? Will choice stores be able to prosper simply because they sell stuff you cannot buy at Wallmart or Lands End or Sams club?
We will have an intersting time of it. I think surplus as we know it will vanish as the companies sell it thm selves?

Bill

Gee, when I think of the Egghead name, I associate it with a company that failed in the strip mall environment. Since, management patterns rarely change, I expect them to fail again in their new venture. Thanks for the word of caution, but since I'm tied up in other issues I probably won't even go short when the TA is screaming to.
