REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. ORCL today announced that Mount Clemens General Hospital, Mercy Health Services, Foundation Health Services and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan recently selected Oracle to provide their health care software solutions. These sales, along with Kaiser Permanente's recent selection of Oracle, illustrate the growing acceptance of Oracle as a leading and preferred vendor for the health care industry.
Mount Clemens General Hospital (MCGH) is an independent 288-bed Osteopathic/acute care facility based in Mount Clemens, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The purchase of the Oracle(R) products will allow MCGH to become Year 2000 compliant, and an accelerated timetable for implementation will help assure that compliance is achieved. The MCGH total solution includes several modules, including Assets, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Project Costing, Inventory, Purchasing, Human Resources, Payroll, Time Management, Training Administration and Oracle Alert(TM). The solution also includes Express(R) Server, Financial Analyzer, Express Objects, Oracle Discoverer(TM) and Workflow. Competition for this sale was intense, and Oracle won over industry rivals Lawsons and PeopleSoft.
Mercy Health Services (MHS), based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is the eighth largest non-profit healthcare system in the U.S. and the largest in Michigan, delivering healthcare through 15 community healthcare systems. It is one of the top 500 employers in the nation, employing nearly 35,000 employees. MHS purchased Oracle Database to assist in the integration efforts of the community health care systems data. MHS custom-designed their own clinical workstation system and outcomes management data warehouse which, in conjunction with the Oracle Database, is expected to provide a more efficient health care environment across the hospitals.
Foundation Health Services (FHS), headquartered in Woodland Hills, CA, is among the largest publicly-traded managed healthcare organizations in the U.S., with revenues reaching approximately $9 billion, coverage provided to five million medical members, and 15,000 employees serving several states. FHS purchased Oracle Database, seeking a solution that would bring greater integration and uniformity to what was previously a heterogeneous computing environment. FHS vendor packages support Oracle solutions, and FHS concluded that Oracle offered better scalability and performance capabilities than the competition.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) is one of the nation's premier health care providers, exceeding $7.0 billion in annual revenues and providing health care coverage to 4.5 million members. BCBSM has standardized on Oracle Database Server across the organization to provide greater overall IT integration. BCBSM found Oracle's systems to be far more flexible and robust than those of the competition. Oracle Database Server will allow the flexibility for BCBSM to deploy users across the enterprise and monitor systems performance from a central location using Oracle tools (Enterprise Manager, Tuning Pack and Enterprise Manager Diagnostics).
Oracle Corporation is the world's leading supplier of software for information management, and the world's second largest software company. With annual revenues of $7.1 billion, the company offers its database, application server, tools and application products along with related consulting, education and support services, in more than 140 countries around the world.
