That is one possibility but you forget Dell is one of the few if not the only PC mfg who exclusively makes Intel based Pcs and has been a very loyal customer of Intel everyone else have strayed so I am assuming Dell certainly will have some consideration from Intel if the scenario you describe were to occur as I don't think Intel would want Dell to stray and start using AMD and Cyrix chips which they could easily obtain for a lower price too.

One can always come up with endless possibilities that could negatively affect a company but then that would prevent one from owning any stocks now or anytime in the future.

DELL's exclusive use of INTC chips makes them a preferred customer of INTC over CPQ and IBM.

INTC is not dumb enough to screw-over DELL. They know that DELL will ultimately rule the industry, all with INTC chips...

INTC needs DELL just as much as DELL needs INTC. DELL is an exclusive market for INTC chips, and the better DELL does, the better INTC does.

There is certainly no loyalty to CPQ.

As for the supply/demand comments you made, do you see a run up in the price of INTC chips as demand increases (yet supply does not)? Does this have a positive effect on margins and ASPs? Or does INTC get runover by some competitor?

Interesting argument, but only part of the total argument (IMO).

How big a customer is DELL? How big a customer is
CPQ? And how big a customer are the other "heavy weight
customers" - HP,...?

Also, how loyal and dependent is each one? Another words,
how easy is it for each of these to go somewhere else.

Who will buy more under crunch times and difficult "seasons"?

These questions and others have to be answered to give the
full picture.

As I have posted to you in the past, I think it is absurd to think that the HP, CPQ, and/or IBM will use their multi-BILLION dollar hardware businesses as lost leaders for service and support revenues....Their shareholders would not support this strategy.....The stock community would not support this strategy....I would love to hear Gerstner's reaction!......Without going into all the numbers (which Chuzz probably could do more effectively than me) It simply would not the most effective use of capital-even a finance clod like me knows this- for these companies to run multi-billion, 0 profit units to support other units that could still be large and very profitable without such support...(Witness EDS, Wang, etc.)....It is more likely that one of these (or more) will exit the PC business first, than take on your idea.....
