<<That browser share report is killing us right now.>>

There never seems to be any description of the actual sample size upon which these reports are based....

was it 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 surveyed?

How does the latest sample size compare to the last?

was it similar?...proportionally greater?...or smaller?

Were the respondents randomly selected? or were they "deliberately" handpicked... (makes it very simple to "show" anything you want with the "right" sample)

These browser market share reports are complete BS. The overall tone of the article is blatantly negative and the statistical basis is completely unjustified.

It amazes me that folks take these reports seriously.... we could go out tomorrow, survey our own "sample", and conclude that Netscape's share is now up to 80% and IE down to 20%. We just "select" known Netscape browser users and "avoid" IE users for our survey. Simple as that.

Maybe I have missed the basis of how these surveys are conducted...if so, then I have just put my foot in my mouth, but....

without an adequate description of the sample being surveyed (size, selection process, and consistency from survey to survey) these reports are crap...
