Ron,

Look at it the other way. The analysts are not bound by GAAP. The analysts were simply clarifying that their earnings estimates didn't include the write-down. (ie .68 or .64 if you include the write-down) One can argue they are spinning, but hey whatever works. ;-)

The analysts did not consider these "one time" charges, so to compare apples to apples, it needs to be added back. That simple.
