Toy;

You said... "If MSFT wanted to really impress me, they should do what NOVL has commited to with NW5. Eric Schmidt of NOVL has commited that before NW5 is publically released (later this summer) 50% of NOVL's own world-wide production network will be running on NW5. MSFT can't even claim that with NT much less NT5. If you or anyone else wants a sense of NT5 readiness, get Gates to make a promise like that. I can garrentee you this - HE WONT!!!"

Are you certain that Microsoft is not running at least 50% of it's own production network on NT?

Regards;
Jordan

Ok, let's try and tackle these one by one:

"Active Directory is basically a patched up version of MSFT's current Domain architecture."

Um... no. While Active Directory will allow you to integrate NT4-style domains for backwards compatibility, saying that it's a patched up domain is similar to calling my PII-266 laptop a patched up TRS-80. Active Directory provides tremendous amounts of functionality that are not present in NT today.

"Active Directory is a non-100% feature of the first edition of NT5."

Wrong. Active Directory is THE key component of NT5. If you care to try it, a very functional version of AD exists in current builds of NT5.

"If MSFT wanted to really impress me, they should do what NOVL has commited to with NW5. Eric Schmidt of NOVL has commited that before NW5 is publically released (later this summer) 50% of NOVL's own world-wide production network will be running on NW5. Wow. Where are you getting your facts? MSFT's network has been better than 98% NT for some time, and by now the last of the minis may have been turned off.

Microsoft *always* uses their own products internally prior to making them publically available. NT5 is, and has been in production for some time. SQL7 is, and has been in production for some time. Exchange 5.5 was in production for some time prior to RTM. Etc, etc.
