I understand the argument. I dumped most of my CPQ after its purchase of TDM. I have a core holding in DELL and CSCO.

The only reason I hold CPQ is because of my strategy to hold #1 and the #2 in every sector I believe is growth. CPQ is a smaller number to digest. ($30) than DELL (115). I can buy 300 shares approx of CPQ to every 100 of DELL. So far DELL has gone up nearly $3 for every $1 move for CPQ. But I am assuming the run will not last a long time for DELL.

BTW I also hold LU in the networking sector (CSCO and LU), DELL and CPQ, PSFT and SAPHY and MER and JPM.

Go to the Dell thread. You'll have a plethora of that kind of advice. Go on...get the hell out of here. My opinion is to hold on to CPQ. It has treated me well since buying in March. You won't go wrong with Dell...it's a good company.

Let me answer that the way I think Jim Kelley would. Both Cpq and Dell will both rise, but Dell a whole lot faster. Why? It hasn't shown yet that cpq (or anybody else for that matter) can stop Dell's locomotive. No matter how you cut it, there's nothing like dealing direct. Cpq insists in making their machines an ugly black.(That wasn't Jim, that was me) It sounds funny, but it isn't. And as long as there is the middle man, you will always have a product that isn't the last one out and you will always have to hand some of the profits over. And last but not least, I happen to think that Eckart is both stubborn and arrogant. This certainly doesn't help when you are dealing with people that know a few things. Jim called the channel stuffing before it was admitted too. Do you think cpq has learned their lesson as far as being more truthful? I doubt it and the street rewards them accordingly.

I dumped a big hunk of CPQ today and bought DELL, and I'm already a few points ahead. I should have done this in January. I still have 800 CPQ left in another account. We'll see what happens.

But after holding CPQ for nine months, what can I say-- my love died.

Found it very hard to sell the stock. I went back and forth for a while, lost a grand in the process. But the DELL has made up for it.
