Sector, I agree with you and Djane on the LU/ASND merger topic.
The only problem is there will be a mass exit by the ASND engineers
and sales staff unless LU will honor their stock options which vest 20% per year for most employees. The corporate structure at LU is
much different than at ASND. ASND gives their employees thousands
of stock options. There are engineers getting over 10K options
and in some cases a lot more. The people at ASND are very talented
and will move on if this carrot is take away. They are getting
very comfortable with making hundreds of thousands of dollars every
year or so and will move to start ups after their options are vested.
The company will not be the same without these people. LU cannot
match ASND in this catagory. LU should consider this before buying
ASND. Will it be the same company after a takeover/merger?

Ricky

"This would seem to explain Ashby's conservatism."

I don't think the idea of downplaying /not announcing new contracts
explains Ashby's conservatism. It's that Mory has really seen the light as far as how the Street really works. I really think they have learned their lesson from the plunge last fall, and the behavior that led to that plunge (i.e., being way more optimistic than Ejabat had the right to be) won't be repeated. There is much to be said for the Greg Maffei way of handling analysts: play down to the most believable extent possible future expectations about the stock during the cc, and ALWAYS deliver more--how much more will vary--than they are expecting. No more surprises folks. I think Ashby understands that on some deep level.

We're not really disagreeing, it's just that that mode of conservatism will continue with or without LU, and isn't necessarily influenced by keeping some kind of artificial lid on the stock price just to appear more attractive to LU.

Sector Investor, thanks for your comments. I'm not sure about the repeated uses of pooling of interests. Any CPAs out there?

Sector,

I'm my opinion LU missed their chance at ASND....I do not believe it will ever happen now.....but they are one of the few who could afford it now. But ASND will surely grow over the next 3 years....I think they should buy my AFCI.<g> But that's not why I bot it. But the perceived rumor is partly the reason I sold my position today...seeing in my ignorance may have contributed to the recent rise. I already have my buy order back in today.<g>

I will return (contest standings) with USWB/AFCI Darren and Tim will not beat me w/ ALTR/OSI.<g> Hey, Good pick CJ on BRKT ! It's on my daily picks...http://www.angelfire.com/nv/1nvesting/
