esecurities- your post implies that the only thing up for sale is HotMetal. My understanding is that SoftQuad inc. is up for sale. That includes ALL of the HotMetal Branded products including HMAPPS, XMetal, etc..

From softquad.com
SoftQuad International also announced today that it intends to retain an investment banker to explore the possible sale or spin-off of SoftQuad Inc., its structured document and web tools subsidiary.

If as you say SoftQuad inc. "represents significant present/shareholder value", how, in your opinion, will the sell off impact that value - sure they'll get some $$, but then what? As a shareholder, I doubt I'll see any value passed on to me - SWEBF shares won't be converted into MSFT. [On the remote chance MSFT buys the division :) ]

I'm having trouble reconciling the principle that getting rid of that division is good for the company. I like many others bought into SWEBF because it was and still remains a leader in developing Internet technology. Something that in these times should be a no brainer.

Enough of this rant - I'm just frustrated...

CMPnet TechWeb on HoTMetaL Application Server/Xpand Your Site With XML

The XML Revolution Promises To Bring A New Approach To Creating Data-Aware Web Environments

"...Because the eXtensible Markup Language is such a nascent technology, tools for constructing XML documents are scarce. Several vendors announced beta or shipping products at Spring Internet World '98 this month, and others have announced XML support in future versions.

SoftQuad earlier this month shipped the HoTMetaL Application Server, which automates the database-to-XML and XML-to-HTML conversion process. HoTMetaL Application Server includes its own scripting language and can output XML, HTML, or Dynamic HTML (DHTML). HoTMetaL Application Server is available now for Unix, Solaris, FreeBSD, and Linux, with a Windows NT version due out in the second quarter. SoftQuad will be posting a free update to HoTMetaL Pro 4.0 that adds support for XML, ODBC databases, DHTML, and Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP)..."
