*AV* --There will be some hurt but not a great deal. the delay with 300mm will force the adoption of the 200mm equipment for future expansions over the next few years. I think the delay in 300mm will move some people off the dime now. They will proceed with 200mm fabs for the next few years, when needed and not plly the 200/300mm mindgames of indecision. ASYT and PRIA will be major players there since they are designed in. ASYT will also do some good retrofit work since anyone that want to stretch their fabs out in useful life, hoping for the 300mm to be pulled in from the 2005 timeframe, would be inclined to do some cheap upgrades. Also, with 300mm on hold, if a mad rush were to come about for 200mm fabs, the size of these fabs would be bigger to make up for the area of silicon required for 200mm vs 300mm production.

Granted both will feel a pinch but there will be plenty of 200mm to more than compensate for the diversion away from 300mm. Both companies can do both sizes so it becomes a shift in what they produce. It really is simplistic and on the order of making a Chevy or GMC version of a Sport utility vehcile on the same assembly line vs sahiting from a Corvette to a Bronco.<GGG>

BTW-it looks as if NEC willproceed with a 300mm Fab in Souther California while eveyone puts the brakes on the 300mm initiative. NEC is the last company I would think would be the guinea pig for this, given the Asian Crisis.
