Tom D. & John May:

Welcome. Good to have 2 bulls who want to be analytical about the company (as opposed to the stock -- m fowler et al). If you'd be so kind, could you make available your spreadsheet with a DCF analysis estimating when amzn will make a profit and what % of the global market in music and books it would need to capture to justify its current stock price. If you'd like, you could toss in any other product markets you'd like. If you'd like a head start or something to compare your own analysis to, kindly look for Manish Aurora's posts on TMF -- he's kindly posted his email and made his own spreadsheet available. I eagerly await your analyses, so we can have a freewheeling debate about the company's fundamentals, future and the assuptions that drive your models.

Grooowth ... grooowth ... grooowth ... the mantra of the Amazonianut.com zombies.

The argument has been repeatedly made that growth will cure all apparent ills with the company's fundamentals and lack of profits in this century. Guess what peanut farmers - growth is slowing at Amazon.com. Barnes & Noble and Borders are gaining. B & N is experiencing about 1/2 the number of page hits but is now growing (based on page hits) at almost twice the rate of Amazon.com. I suspect that B & N's sales growth is less than that, maybe just 40% faster than Amazon.com. Still, the competition is gaining.

What about CD and music sales. Amazon.com does not even figure on the charts. Maybe that is unfair because they haven't started yet. Ill hold my breath for the stampede.

Amazon's own reports indicate that growth has dropped to less than half of what it was a year ago. And that is happening despite the huge increase in advertising expenditures. Common amazon.com, drag those buyers to the site and make them purchase something! Don't they know that this is the darling of the internet e-commerce companies and that a new nirvana awaits them if only they would buy something? Chant the mantra people . . . Grooowth, grooowth, grooowth. (Hey, maybe they can get a spot on the Simpson's)

Grooowth . . . Forget it. Amazon's growth is already slowing and is needed to pay off their Senior notes and stock options.
