That hardware is more than adequate.

I have been running Realtick III on a 32 meg machine lately.

Also the latest update to the software is less ram hungry.

It is important that you have a high quality monitor, and it is especially important that you have a great Internet Service Provider ( or two or three) <gggg>.

Good Luck!

My P 166 with 64 ram runs mB Trading just fine, sometimes (but not when stocks are moving very fast) with MIRc one or two chatrooms on also. In addition, my telepone lines are ancient! Good luck to you.

This posting is somewhat long - for which I apologize to all.

MB trading depends upon Real Tick III. The same provider that other on line brokers utilize. I happen to use livetrade.com and prior to that A.B. Watley.

I use 2 computers - one in my office and the other when I am travelling.

The office computer is a 200Mhz Pentium Pro with 64mb. My traveling computer is an IBM Thinkpad 765D with 166mhz Pentium MMX with 96mb.

The Pentium Pro is obviously faster - but surprisingly, I have fewer problems on the Thinkpad because of its greater memory capacity. By problems, I mean the consumption of memory resources when I have Outlook 98 and my PIM (Packrat Pro v. 6.0.5.0) open at the same time. At first I thought it was a Windows 98 (Beta 3) resource problem - these are resources that cannot be enlarged since, as I understand it, they are the guts of the Windows operating system and the size is unchangeable. But in taking a good look at what was happening on the 2 computers, I discovered that more memory on the slower Thinkpad allowed my Outlook 98 and Packrat windows to remain open and to be used while trading.

The bottom line from this long-winded reply is that if you have economic constraints I would add more memory instead of speeding up the processor. I have just ordered another 64mb for my Pentium Pro. Ideally you may want to do both and get at least 200Mhz Pentium.

One question that I cannot answer: Does anyone on this board use an AMD or Cyrix processor? They are much less costly than Pentiums, but are they truly transparent to the Real Tick III software? If there is someone who can post that they are using one or the other of these 2 processors, then this is an alternative you may want to consider if cost is a consideration.

Xmonger- Sounds like your machine will work. I would add to other posts that you should get a 56k modem as 28.8 will really hang your data flow. This is according to MBT. They also recommend Sprint ISP or another that uses alternet. I am on GTE isp and it has been very good. The isp choice is important.

I have been with MBT a week and despite the Chicago MCI hub probs I have had good service.

OK, I'll add mine in here as well... running RealTicIII with a Cyrix P166 and also a P150 and 32 Meg memory on each, with only 28K modems, and dirty copper lines, out in the country. All has been well except in heavy volume times... then it hangs for a bit. Now that I hear mo' memory helps I''ll move to 64 real fast now.
