Of course they could have simply reiterated their previous buy rating. Just because it's a week before earnings doesn't mean they have to downgrade the stock to a hold. I have no clue what's going to happen next week...but as far as this analyst's reputation goes....it isn't any better to lower a stock to a hold the week before earnings and then have the company exceed expectations than the reverse recommendation and then have the company not meet expectations. Plus...what..is there some requirement that they have to issue a recommendation each month. Maybe there is and I just don't know.

But here's what I'd like to say about these analysts. Why can't they make the reports available to the public. I would just like to know the basis of the recommendation to see if there is any merit. That's the one thing I like about Lehman. At least their reports are available to everyone on their web site. Wouldn't surprise me if it's all based on SAP anyway.
