As an end-user I would rather buy a cheap 300 MHz cpu witch is upgradable, (and faster than other 300 MHz cpu's) than an expansive 300 witch has "big brothers"..... I don't think it really matters or not wether Intel has got more MHz. It's not quantity we are talking about, it's quality witch (Should) matter. Alpha Dec has been around a GIGAhertz (1000 MHz) for a while, but Intel would 'nt care less, because they can't compete anyhow in the high-end server market. I don't think that the aim of AMD is killing high-end pII's (wich are not sold as much as 300 MHz pII or 333's..), but to eliminate the Johny-average-city-guy who has interest in a good,fast and affordable mid-class cpu, from buying Intel. I found that at least in Europe, the most sold PII are the 300 and 333's. Especially the 300's. And AMD also has those cpu's available right now, for quite a bit cheaper.

So I don't worry about Amd NOT catching up. I find the FUTURE of AMD quite bright, and at least for a couple of months I don't see any reason why customers won't choose AMD above Intel. Oh yeah that remind's me : Intel is loosing market share , even with their ZILLION dollar marketing strategies ...I have seen an Advertizement of AMD
ONE time in my life (In a mag..)... Whilst Intel is perforating the whole consumer market with their single minded view about their own cpu's. Amd isn't that dependend on what ADVERTIZEMENT says, no, they rather develop slick and cost-effective solutions, wich will win the Intel-AMD race on the long haul.

Consumers have got brains too , you know....

"oS Ti ekAMD", Michael da Kota. (turn it around ;)

Yousef - Re: "the K6 was introduced on April 2, 1997 at 166mhz, 200mhz and 233mhz. At this time, the K6 was as fast or faster than any announced Intel processor. "

This is a very good point - totally "LOST" by the AMD cognescenti !

Yes, Jerry Sanders was blowing his horn on April 2, 1997 - I was there - I heard him ! I remember what he shouted that morning :

{====================}

AMD is BACK, We are FASTER THAN INTEL.

We Have The Products !

We Have The People !

The Profits Will Follow !

{=====================}

He wasn't too specific, however, about when the profits would follow.

Good thing !
