Well, for independent counsel, they were put into law with good intention but so far not a single indepenedent counsel has done any good job. To me this is work around for the lawyers to make easy $ 500/hour doing nothing. This is shame. I think the institution of independent counsel be abolished as you said Starr is having great time with no checks and bounds, has spent 40 million dollar and has not produced a single prosecution, it is a crime on the income tax payer.

Nimingdn,

Is the "they" you refer to the "right wing conspirators" or some other
Republican sponsored shadow organization? President William Jefferson Clinton promised us the American people and taxpayers(owners of the White House & employers of the Secret Service) back in January, when this story broke, that we would know more rather than less and sooner rather than later. We're still waiting.

He also assured his cabinet staff (Albright, Rubin, Reno, etc.) there was no truth to the sexual allegations and his cabinet came out and said they believed and supported the President. Why wouldn't they! What a nice boss and nice person.

Maybe if the president were concentrating on his job in the first place rather than trying to get some 23 year old intern he's boinking (while his wife and daughter are in other rooms) to lie in a two bit sexual harassment case he wouldn't be in this current predictement.

It's kind of ironic the independent counsel law, passed by the democrats and used for 8 years by Lawrence Walsh against George Bush & Co ($ 40M later, inlcuding a re-indictment of Kasper Weinberger the Friday before the presidential election) is now a thorn in the Slicksters craw.
