(OTC BB- VPRO) today announced it has commenced discussions to distribute its revolutionary mosquito bed-net and insecticide products with distributors operating in the continents of Africa, Central and South America that will allow for these products to reach consumer markets on these continents. Viropro's wholly owned subsidiary, Insecta Sales and Research, Inc. manufactures an insecticide impregnated mosquito bed-net utilizing its patented proprietary process and EPA registered formulation. This bed-net is designed to kill the insects before they can infect, thereby preventing or at the very least decreasing the spread of malaria and other insect borne illnesses. Malaria is a major killer worldwide and a leading cause of death of young African children. It is estimated that between one and two million people are infected with malaria per year. The Company has commenced discussions with Elcopak Limited of Ghana, on the African continent. Elcopak has represented to the Company that they are leading suppliers of healthcare medical supplies and equipment and have the largest distribution network in that country. Elcopak focuses on bringing preventive products to the people not curative ones, a philosophy that is very similar to the Company's. To that end, Elcopak works directly with the Ghana Supply Commission, (Procurement agency for the Government of Ghana); the Ministry of Defense, (Medical Directorate); The Ministry of Interior, (Police Hospital); and various other public health institutions including the teaching hospitals and private medical laboratories. Viropro has also commenced discussions with Grupo Tucan, S.A. of Costa Rica in the continent of Central America. Grupo focuses on importing to its market consumer products that provide unique benefits to the user and are not currently available. There are millions of people living in the many countries near Costa Rica that will benefit from the preventive nature of the Insecta bed-net. Viropro seeks to expand its customer base into Central and South America. A prerequisite to any agreement with any distributor requires that the distributor obtain approval from all appropriate governmental regulatory agencies prior to the importation of the Company's products.
