Randi, The UseNet groups misc.forsale, misc.forsale.computer etc have been going on a long time. They a big groups and a lot of people know the scam artists on line. There is a lot of fraud going on in these groups as well. Just because someone puts up a web page to sell something (btw like a lot of other people have done), does not mean success. Most of the web page barder pages and forsale pages have little merchandise compared with the general Usenet groups. There is a lot of junk being peddled on line. The potential is large and ripe. Unless you're dealing with a major retailer it is Caveot Emptuer, Buyer Beware. Bob

I understand that they want their commissions so they take a credit card for their commission. Now what about liability when a scam artist infects this type of bartering? Is the commission to the bartering agent liable? Is a promoter liable if they do not know what they are promoting is lie or a fraud? Sam artists exist in all arenas of money. They prey on ignorance which is where the old saying goes I think "Buyer Beware". Heck in some states their are lemon laws. A proper authority once told me take your accussations, speculations, stories, opinions, etc. take it to who ever you can get to listen to you. Well it appears the internet has become such a forum for that exact purpose. However they are interested in complaints with evidence. The internet unless someone privy to the evidence really goes off half cocked about something they have no idea about the facts or evidence. If you believe the story and did not use common sense whose fault is it and liable for that persons ignorance or actions based on what they believed. GB
