Various "rumors" have both VLSI going to TI, and LSI going to Lucent.
Also ICST going to CY or Lucent. Anyway, that's the BB chatter.

I said there was a 50/50 chance of VLSI getting taken over within a year, I now feel this is closer to about 90 percent. The reason is because VLSI has tremendous IP in the hottest markets going, but they have not been able to turn this into consistent profits. The marketing strength of a TI or MOT or whomever behind them could propel sales.

TI is a natural fit. No more memory, focused into wireless, set-top, networking, and consumer digital, i.e. *VLSI's* markets. Intel is moving the same way, and MOT needs to re-energize their products. IBM meanwhile has already signaled it's intent become a wireless powerhouse, and to compete head to head with TI in ASICs and DSPs. So given this scenario, plus the preposterously low VLSI stock price, it would be naive to think VLSI will NOT be taken over by the end of the year.
