I'd like to connect it up with my 6100/66 via Ethernet to be able to utilize my scanner, printer and quick cam and anything else that comes to mind . Is this a matter of just wiring. Will AAUI Ethernet connector work seamlessly with the 100 BaseT on the iMac without hubs and stuff or is here more to it than that. Or is the 6100/66 connector just that....a connector. Does Ethernet actually have to be added via a card ?

All you need to do this is the AAUI Ethernet connector (transceiver) you mentioned for the 6100, and an Ethernet crossover cable of whatever length you require. Get a Cat5 Ethernet crossover cable with RJ-45 connectors on each end. A regular Ethernet cable will not work here because both computers would be attempting to transmit and receive on the same respective wires. The iMac will have a regular RJ-45 connector built in, so no transceiver needed there. That's where the Ethernet hub comes in, for more complicated setups with more than just two computers.

Plug the cable into both computers, go to the AppleTalk control panel, select the Ethernet option from the pop-up menu, close the control panel and save the changes. Then, just turn on Apple's File Sharing and away you go.

If you have any other questions about this or need further information, feel free to send me a private message here on SI (so we don't take up this thread with a technical discussion). I'll be glad to help.
