True.

I don't recall seeing IBM on the cover of any magazines touting their imminent demise when they lost billions of dollars in a single year.

Only because you remember pain more vividly. I was following IBM at the time, and BusinessWeek as well as Fortune or Forbes had cover stories on IBM's misfortunes.
