Greg given now that Qcom is an the verge of getting some momentum in earnings and big Tel companies currency is so high shouldnt Q take measures now to insure that there is no hostile takeover? Is there anything they can do? It seems to me with Lucent stock where it is they have to buy earnings. Who better then the Q? I to feel it would be terrible for us long time shareholders. I do however feel there would be a bidding war if one company aproached Q. There is simply to much at stake

DaveMG:

Admittedly, you can infer that I am suspicious of Lucent's goodwill toward QC...that, by the way, is far less than a formal pronouncement that Lucent is targeting Qualcomm. Given my position, QC ownership and access to management, I need to be careful to separate "concerns" from "opinions" from "facts". I certainly do not want to give anyone the impression that I "know" something regarding a Lucent transaction with Qualcomm or that I think such a combination is in my/our best interest. I worry a lot about QC getting taken out...some people I respect have suggested that I worry about it too much. Nevertheless, I cannot help but notice that Lucent's market capitalization has increased...in just two days...by almost five times QC's entire valuation.

Bottom line: I do not want to contribute to unsubstantiated rumors or promotional innuendo.

Best regards,

Gregg
