Michael,

I read your article with interest. I noticed that all your picks have small float. Was that a deliberate choice?

I noticed no mention of GNET. What do you think of it?

Finally, on a different subject, I have a question on wash sales. I sold 100 shares of a company on 21 June. Then another 200 shares on 20 July. Can I buy the first 100 shares back now (after 30 days) or do I have to wait another 30 days until after my LAST sale of the stock?

Thanks for all the great postings.

Kathleen

MB,

MRK misses estimates by a penny and falls $8. TXN misses estimates by 2 cents and rises $2.

What does this suggest to you?

Michael, >>Africa and Latin America also offer lots of shell-shocked.

I am watching SOA for an entry point, but it keeps on going down. What Latin America country, other than Chile do you think is safe here? i.e. devaluation and other things seem remote? BTW, I bought brazil for my coffee play...well got my 12% in a couple of weeks, which was my goal...in and out.

No interest in individual ADRs? (Aside from the mining issues that we know you like, that is.) I'm tempted by a long SBWRY/short BUD; SBWRY PE still close to 20, but at least Africa, China, & Eastern Europe, where SBWRY sells beer, might grow someday, and the US, where BUD (PE over 20) sells most of its beer, won't grow as much. I wish SBWRY would trade down in local-currency terms, but the Rand discount is good.

Second, have you seen this piece the Cleveland Fed did last month?
clev.frb.org

Their argument is that the S&P relative to GNP is not so far out of line, on an absolute, historical basis or given a growing, low inflation environment. I have my criticisms, but it does appear that if the US manages to eke out some growth without inflating, that stock prices could remain elevated for some time.

PMTC is melting away. Do you plan on picking up some scraps any time soon?

Mile and Joan,

According to last night's report, Korean government is expecting 2nd
half of 98 will be worse. This is good news for US semis, but bad for
US export like oil and grain sectors to Korea.

Mike, I appreciate your comments on CEF. It was just what I was looking for. I am particularly interested in apd because of the area it is in and the yield. I have also been told about Templeton Dragon (tdf) and Templeton China (tch), both of which are selling at discount and have decent yields. Can you give me your opinion about those 2 funds.

Thanks a lot.

Where (web sites) would one find average PE and other valuation data on asian indices such as KLSE. Sources of fundamental data on individual issues would also be helpful. Thanks for your help and the insightful posts.
