As a part of DD, if you want to use 2nd opinions to confirm or support your decision, you might call some of the distributors (refer to the news releases) and ask them about their decision to use the product. What do they think about the product? Do they have customers who are already interested in using the product? (better for distributors who have had an agreement for a while.) What are their realistic sales expectations? What is/was their main motivation for choosing to distribute this product? What would the alternatives be? (i.e. competitors)

It would also be a good idea to talk with some of the reference sites where the product has already been installed and ask similar questions. I believe the company already has some completed installations. It would seem appropriate to call Alya and see if there are references you can call where the system is already in place.

I seem to recall seeing something on this thread about Echelon and Motorola announcing that they will be installing the system in some of their buildings. Aside from the obvious marketing reasons, you might get other reasons or information. I wouldn't be above calling the head of building security and asking him about the product. If he conveys the impression that it is being forced upon him,... more research might be needed. On the other hand, if he had a strong voice in the decision, and goes on about how it will make his job easier, that is another story.
