The final blow, Greenspan talking about low energy prices and negative impact on drilling rigs. His questioner, the esteemed Congressman or Senator or whatever from Oklahoma then compared the situation today with the problems of the 80's, making it sound as though this situation could last for years.

We will know that this sector has hit bottom when the stocks sell off, on heavy volume ( i.e. climatic selling), in the morning and end up unchanged or higher at the close. The following day the stocks close significantly higher on heavy volume!
