MD believed that nearly 30% of Dell's sales were coming from upgrades of this type (not necessarily for net use however)

This might be having an impact on the stock also.>> Jim, the only answer to this will be revealed on Aug. 18th when Dell releases it's earnings report. Now, given the reports already released by HWP and CPQ, and given your bearish perspective on Dell, maybe you should short more Dell between now and Aug. 18th. Others of us are speculating that given the relatively strong growth in PC sales (per IDC), and the poor performance of HWP and CPQ, that market share has possibly shifted to more efficient manufacturers.
