Have you had difficulties in working with BEA?

None whatsoever. I know some of the local people, and they are great guys. My observation was that there is inevitably a difference between what looks good on paper (seamless fit of products, neat alignment of strategies etc.) and what is manageable in real life. Corporate strategists tend to forget that companies are made up of people, and those people need to be comfortable with the strategies that filter down the organisation. Indigestion occurs when deal-making activity at the top moves faster than the body of the company can absorb.

I have admired the BEA strategy from the start, from a theoretical standpoint. But I remain sceptical whether they can execute in the long term. Their recent acquisitions - which seem to me more in the knee-jerk category than of the grand-plan variety - are beginning to support my feeling that BEA is more likely to be a short-term market phenomenon that makes money for some savvy investors, than a long term player in the industry.
