William,
Just read the warning from J. Bezos that revenue growth might not sustainable due to competition from B&N. I think Bezos know better about the barriers. Amazon brand is worth much less than 7 Billions. On your bookmarks you can have tons of better ones.
Well if you buy amzn under 80 then you still can enjoy, but how long?

William,

I believe barnesandnoble.com, borders, and others? will do it in a fraction of the time it took amazon.com to do it.

Next, it will be tarzan.com, or nile.com, or how about thebush.com
Keep in mind were talking about commodities here. there are a lot of companies with very deep pockets that could decide to go into the book and CD business tomorrow if they thought it could be profitable. but why go into a cut-throat commodity selling business wherein the lead competitor is selling books at a loss.

Plus, with all these threads to read, who in the hell has time to read a boring book.

good luck.

"Your "no barriers to entry" argument is false. How much would it cost you to garner 3 million accounts today"

I said barriers to ENTRY, not barriers to 3 million accounts. Anybody can sell books on the web. You, me, grandma... ANYBODY! It doesn't mean that anybody can be successful (or make a profit as AMZN has proved).

BTW, since everybody is harping on the 300% revenue increase, why isn't anybody talking about the 100% loss increase.

Your "no barriers to entry" argument is false. How much would it cost you to garner 3
million accounts today, keep them coming back like Amazon has, and then grow that
base as fast as Amazon will? How much do you think Amazon's brand is worth now?

These are not accounts. This not a subscripion service. I went there once. but never returned. My wife also. They count us from more than a year ago. I use BGP most often. The "accounts" can never decrease because they do not post "active customers." Active customers is the key not people that were there once that may be dead now. They are still accounts. How many purchases do dead people make? Ignorance is rampid here and I am losing patience.
