PeopleSoft expects total revenues for the third quarter of 1998 to increase approximately 60% over total revenues recorded in the same quarter of the prior year. For the 1998 calendar year, PeopleSoft expects total revenues to increase between 60% and 65% over the total revenues recorded for the prior full year. Where is the problem?

Cool .. I am not sure how to respond ... PSFT does not hold conf calls.

What conference call are you speaking of and which PS employees participated? It sounds as though you were privy to information and what transpired.

Hope you can clarify this one....

I'm confused about something here. Was there or wasn't there a conf. call. I've followed psft for some time now and don't know whether they typically do a conf. call or not. (This in response to whoever said they don't) But if there is one, could someone please post the #.

Secondly, with respect to attributing Asian pressures to slower license fee growth. I don't get this at all. If Int'l revenues doubled it doesn't sound like the problem was in Asia. Does anyone remember last year when orcl had that terrible qtr. and tried to attribute it to Asia. It was some Asia (understandable for them since their intl revenues were much higher) but also declining database sales overall and a sales execution problem. I think Asia is a good scapegoat these days.

But then again, I don't even know if there even was a conf.call.

One more point.....did PSFT say forward growth would be 60-65% in total revenues? If so, and if svcs. is growing at such a rapid rate, then wouldn't that mean that software will slow even more?

There's nothing wrong at all w/the growth in svcs. Except as someone said...definitely lower margins. But as Michelle said earlier, services revenue comes from prior license agreements. If license agreements slow then over time services will start to slow also. It's not like psft is an independent consulting organization. They do consultng and training on their software. And the bulk of the training and consulting is usually associated with the initial license agreement vs. future upgrades. So much of the services revenue we see this quarter definitely has to do with prior sales....not sales from this quarter.
