Perhaps my flaw is I look towards the future of business and see potential and opportunities where others don't. Perhaps they refuse to see.

It's not that you have a flaw or don't. It's that you aren't the CEO of Amazon.com, so it doesn't matter what new business opportunities you see for Amazon.com. What matters for Amazon is what the executives at Amazon.com think, and what their strategic plans are. They do, after all, make the decisions, and I doubt that Jeff Bezos is reading this board to drum up new ideas for strategic planning purposes.

Bezo also said that margins outside of books were lower and that competition stronger and specialized skills were more important. Do you speculate that Amazon.com will one day compete with Compaq, Dell, GateWay, Onsale, Egghead and others? If so, you are completely misinformed on Amazon's capabilities, the realities of internet and general merchandizing and their intent to build the business responsibly.

Wild speculation has now gotten Amazon.com into a situation in which it may feel pressure by investors to live up to some dream for expansion that is irresponsible and could ruin the company altogether. To wildly inflate expectations so you can make a personal killing, not caring what the company really plans to accomplish? Is that what you want? Well you've already got that and more.

<<Perhaps my flaw is I look towards the future of business and see potential and opportunities where others don't. >>

...and perhaps your flaw is that you haven't a feel for what AMZN's resources or probable success should they venture out into other retailer's turf....I think AMZN was able to enter the book sales business because there was an exploitable niche.....

These niches are rapidly being closed....even in the book arena.....

I don't want to underestimate what Bezos has accomplished, which is significant, but he is no superman....His available cash and prospective ventures are more limited than you think....

But, in the long run we will see what we see........
