No direct comment on that issue. They did say that they expect to see more repeat sales as it becomes more difficult and more expensive to get new customers from the general internet pool. Repeat sales are now at 63%, up significantly from past quarters. This too signals to me that sales growth rates will decline sharply in the future. While it looks very impressive to grow sales from the start-up levels when there was virtually NO competition, as the company grows past the start-up phase they become much harder fought. The competition has taken serious notice and has just started to react to protect their flanks from this intrusion.

If I were to gues what MIGHT be happening, (here I'm speculating), I'd hazard to say that many buyers are like myself. I have signed up as a customer at Amazon.com but have done more business at deeper discount book sellers. So, were some of the early customners may have bought all their on-line books at Amazon.com, they now are spreading some of their purchases to other vendors. That may not mean that B & N or Borders is getting the business. I shop bot around
to get 50% discounts on most things I buy. Got a new color printer this week for 25% off the normal retail price.

The WSJ article was well written and touches on many of the points we have discussed on this thread recently (this is probably where they get a lot of free research). Some speculators may even have the sense to read it.
