B&N has an April quarter, so it's the most recent (and closest parallel) I can use. B&N reported those numbers in late May.

Jeff Bezo said that he expects increased competition from both Borders and B & N due to their recent increase in advertising. He said that they did not think they were competing head-to-head until just recently. Covey said that both of them redid their sites to make them more easily and quickly navigable which will make it a more even playing field. I still think that Amazon.com has a lead in ease of navigation, searching, and check-out. That lead is not nearly what it was just a couple of months ago before the renovations. Borders and Barnes & Noble still have work to do in providing book reviews and users comments or chat rooms. Their "suggested titles" selections also needs to be improved substantially. But the backbones of the sites have been put in place and these other things can now be fleshed out.

In general, as the competitors match the ease of navigation, breath of their search engine's databases, and information on book titles, the advantage will slip away from Amazon.com.
