Jock, thanks for the detail summary. Goosh ! you sure type fast !

The prospect of LSI looks really great. With so many new products ramping up, the chance to beat that 'flat' outlook for the 3 qtr is good.

The best news I got from the call is that Sony is now just 11% of the business. Playstation is only a part of this, so the fear spread by K about LSI losing 20% of its business if it loses Playstation is just a bunch of bunk. LSI is the leading independent supplier of DVD chips and expects to retain its 25 percent share of the market. That is a tremendous growth area for the next one to five years. It is in more high quality DCAM products. Wilf said that although it is a small area right now, they are flying off the shelves, and will also not see seasonality in the next year as the price declines. Fibre Channel will explode. LSI still has 80% of the design wins in Fibre Channel. This makes Symbios a superior purchase both in terms of synergy, and because ADPT is oriented to the PC, whereas Symbios is oriented to the server market. K's is totally full of it when he talks about LSI's inability to communicate with analysts. There is a clear and apparent open relationship with with the analysts, but the problem has been the lack of the public access to hearing this. With the 800 number, anyone who cares to draw his own conclusions is free to do so.

If I look at my holding at LSI from a short term perspective, it has been a disappointment. But over a two and one half year time period, it is just as promising as it appeared to be over a two year time period. No one bought this stock at the beginning of this year expecting great things from LSI because we had been warned, but the market always anticipates, so it is anyone's guess as to when LSI explodes to the upside. Their bright future is intact, and K is covering his short that he fought so hard to protect.

Jock, thanx for your extensive CC notes. My impression is that
somewhere shane and TSO are cooing. I think we can at least expect
a reiteration out of Tom Kerplop. Since LSI called him and he revised
his thoughts on LSI, he will be most anxious to to give a "I told
you so" to the street. Keeping at least one chip company out of his
sell list also makes him appear more balanced. With the rest of the
year's earnings being ONLY slightly up, we may not swing very many
analysts to the buy column. Those that are smart will realize that
LSI is a "buy" based on the price of the stock and that no way could
one get it in the lower 20s when a blow-out '99 draws near.

Jock, thanks for the CC notes. I know it takes quite a while to get through them, and then you have to back up sometimes to capture some parts so you can make notes. I have been doing the Intel CC's and summarizing over to the Intel threads. I was going to do the same here (honest) but you beat me to the punch. Thanks again.

I liked best the part that Symbios is a vendor to workstations and servers, not PC's, like Adaptec (although Adaptec goes up beyond PC's also). I also liked the mention that the explosive growth happening in NT will now be shared by LSI, through Symbios. One of the posts (apologize to the originator) this week asked why LSI is buying Symbios what with all the misery over on the Adaptec thread. My answer to that is that, hopefully, Symbios is more like a young EMC, than an Adaptec. I hate to knock Adaptec, though, because of their great SCSI products and very long run of profitable quarters. For the record, EMC's run:

Hey, one can only hope.

From DJ:
Sutro & Co. Cuts LSI Logic To Hold From Accumulate

Does anyone remember the Sutro analyst and his/her questions? I evidently missed it.

JH- Thanks for the summary. Much less static than the replay.-g-
