Hi Monty ; RE > My question is this. How does this happen
when on 7/20/98 there were 10%-20% more of the stocks
making up each Index below the 200 DMA!! :-)))

OK
The high set on 7/20/98 was more concentrated ( narrower ) in the
Nifty Fifty...the money flowed into the very most liquid of
stocks..Tahts why I came up with the MAGIC TEN..taking
the 5 top in the SPX, with the 5 top in the Nazdaq 100,
but no duplicates these 10 stocks as a group beat every index
and the Nifty Fifty.

-$268.82-1.85%
But note today they were not down as much as the SPX or the OEX,
but just a tad more than the NDX, because this is a hybrid.
But it's here that was the main cause of the 7/20/ top.
yet left some of the NF losing ground in respect to the
% above the MA, I'll bet none of these were below the 200 MA
at that time :-)
After this correction I may need to re-do the Nifty Fifty,
as well as this magic ten. They won't stay the same over
time.
