Will TLC's new Internet "unlocking" and "applet" technologies, especially coupled with the large capacity of the new DVDs and the company's ability to quickly move massive amounts of compatible products to consumers, give TLC a competitive edge such as is associated with companies like Amazon?

If DVDs were found in sub $800 PCs or even better in the sub $500 PCs that will be out soon then I would say that TLC could gain greatly by putting 10-15 productivity titles on one DVD and "unlocking" them one at a time. The key there is that titles that take up less than 300 megs of CD space will allow very large numbers per DVD.

Education, Reference, and Foreign Language titles that use multimedia (video, sound, or both) use up too much disk space to allow efficient bundling for "unlocking". Clue Finders has large amounts of video. Reader Rabbit doesn't. So you could put every Reader Rabbit title on one DVD and allow a family to pay as they go (as the child is ready for the next school grade or whatever).

It is definitely a plus for all involved (TLC and the end user) but it won't be the obvious plus that Amazon has. Text just doesn't take up much disk space so text only products have an extreme advantage in practical storage and transfer.
