BTW, my last post was in reference to THIS story: MUSA REFUSED FAIR HEARING Belize City, June 24, 1998 With only five days left for the UDP term of office to expire, hundreds of voices rang out this morning in Belmopan to remind PM Esquivel that enough is enough and that the people would not be distracted by the five years of UDP witch hunting. Party supporters and observers flocked to the Magistrate's Court in Belmopan where PUP Leader Said Musa had been summoned to face a bogus Commission of Inquiry chaired by UDP messengers Harry Lui and Bill Tillett. This is the sixth time that the UDP has attempted to embarrass Mr Musa with allegations of irregularities in the Economic Citizenship Programme. They have failed and will fail again! Mr Musa has declared that there was absolutely no wrong doing on his part. Since last week various persons have been instructed to appear before the Lui kangaroo court where they have been harangued and harassed. But the political charade of the UDP continues right into their final hours in office. They are holding this ridiculous bogus inquiry in the Magistrate's Court in Belmopan. On Wednesday Chairman Harry Lui, Net Vasquez's book keeper known to bear personal malice against the PUP Leader, refused to comply with the requests made by attorneys for Mr Musa. Appearing on behalf of Mr Musa, Eamon Courtenay questioned the purpose of the BIS television cameras which he pointed out were being used to record the proceedings for UDP political ads. Lui outrightly refused the request. Courtenay then demanded that evidence and documents in the possession of the Commission be provided to Mr Musa and that witnesses who had testified be recalled to be cross examined. Courtenay also asked for a disclosure of the proceedings. Showing his obvious bias, Lui refused all the requests made on behalf of Mr Musa. Courtenay objected strenuously to these refusals on the grounds that it infringed on the rights of the PUP Leader to a fair hearing as guaranteed by law. Mr. Lui gave no quarter, clearly on the instructions of his political bosses. When it was obvious that the bogus Commission would not allow for an independent and fair hearing. Mr Musa, on the advice of his attorneys, left the Magistrate's Court. He was met by hundreds of supporters bearing placards and making their demands known to the UDP. The entire gathering then marched to the PUP Cayo South headquarters in Belmopan, where an impromptu rally took place addressed by Deputy Party Leader Max Samuels, Hon Florencio Marin and Standard Bearer Agripino Cawich. The crowd grew boisterous as Musa took the podium. Mr Musa reiterated that despite the many attempts at malicious persecution by the UDP, he and the PUP would not be daunted in their fight to free Belize from the despotic administration of the UDP. He finished with the popular message to UDP to 'CALL ELECTIONS NOW!' The message is clear - the people want out. Out of the abuse, the negligence, the corruption and the tyranny of the UDP. The UDP has run long enough, and now they must face the people. Attorneys for Mr Musa have applied to the Supreme Court asking the judge to review the appointment and activities of the bogus Commission. It is expected that the Supreme Court will give Musa leave to produce evidence of Harry Lui's bias and of the complete denial of his rights. If successful the result of these proceedings will probably be that the entire Commission will be quashed.
